Total Dynamic Head Calculator

Combine static elevation change, friction head loss, and pressure head difference into the total dynamic head your pump needs to overcome.

How this is calculated

TDH = H_static + H_friction + ΔP/(ρg)

When to use this calculator

Total Dynamic Head (TDH) is what a pump must overcome to move fluid through a system: the elevation it has to lift the fluid, the friction losses along the pipe run (get this from the Pressure Drop or Head Loss calculator), and any pressure difference between the source and destination. Undersizing TDH is the most common cause of a pump that can't hit its rated flow.
